taxi referred to in paragraph (1), the fare for hiring

such taxi shall, notwithstanding regulation 47 of the

principal regulations, be the fare shown on its taximeter.

Explanatory Note

These regulations amend the Fifth Schedule

to the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations

(a) by increasing the taxi fares for New

Territories taxis and Lantau taxis from

$3.30 to $4.00 for the first 2 kilometres

or any part thereof and from 70 cents to

80 cents for every 0.4 kilometre or part

thereof thereafter;

(b) by increasing the waiting time fare for

New Territories taxis and Lantau taxis

from 70 cents to 80 cents for every 2

minutes or part thereof during which the

taxi is hired but not in motion; and

(c) by introducing an additional fare, in the

form of a surcharge of 50% in addition to

the normal fare, in respect of the hire of

Lantau taxis commencing on Sundays and

other public holidays.
