Assessment of the fare increase applications New Territories taxis

The majority of New Territories taxis are owner driven. Annex B shows a summary of the operating and financial statistics for the owner-driver group of New Territories taxis, together with statistics from previous surveys. It is evident that the financial position of the New Territories taxis is no longer satisfactory. Over the last two years, the average daily kilometrage operated by each taxi has declined from 203 to 175 while the average daily paid kilometrage has declined from 117 to 101. The number of daily paid trips has also fallen from 40 to 36.
