Stewart Road Footbridge

I refer to your letter dated 27 September 1985 addressed to the Secretary for lands and Works.

follows:

In answer to the points raised in your letter, my advice is as

(i)

(ii)

the Stewart Road Footbridge schere provides a direct connection to the podium of the Causeway Centre;

the proposed staircase connection to ground

level on the northern end of the Stewart Road Footbridge will provide access to and from the west footpath

of Harbour Drive and will reduce rather than

increase pedestrian/vehicle conflicts at ground level. If the staircase were not provided, pedestrians on the footbridge wanting to gain access to the ground level premises under Causeway Centre would have to come down to ground. level inside the Sun Eung Kai Centre and criss the vehicular traffic in Harbour Prive at-grade. There is no connection open to public use between the podium of Causeway Centre and ground level;
