1st December 1986..

We, the undersigned, support the following demands by the people of Hong Kong regarding the proposed Daya Bay nuclear power plant :

We urge you to favourably consider the expressed wishes of the Joint Conference for Shelving of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant which is a coalition of 116 community organisations in Hong Kong :

1. That all feasibility study reports on the economic, safety and environmental impact of the Daya Bay nuclear power plant be released to the public immediately;

2. That in view of the geographical location of the plant to Hong Kong there should be a serious assessment of the feasibility of contingency and evacuation plans for the population within 50 kilometres distance to the nuclear station ;

3. That in view of a substantial opposition from Hong Kong to the proposed nuclear project, a public hearing should be held to investigate and assess the desirability of the project i

4. That the Preliminary Safety Assessment of the Daya Bay plant will be carried out by a verified independent body;

5. That construction of the Daya Bay plant be postponed until the above- mentioned have been adequately carried out.

For the Canberra NFIP committee :
