Thursday, September 18: The Lagen delegation was greeted by head of the Second Department under the uk and Macau Affairs Office, Rong Kang, and the director of the research centre under the Ministry of Nuclear Industry, Li Yingxiang, when they arrived in Peking yesterday afternoon for a five-day visit, the media reported.

The Legco delegation's arrival in the Chinese capital was also reported on the front page of the overseas edition of the People's

Daily.

Mr Rong said the Legco delegation's stay at the Diao Yu Tal State Guest House was only because orher guest houses were not available.

ATV-Chinese quoted Mr Rong as saying that the Legco delegation'e visit had been given comparatively greater importance than other delegations because it was China which took the initiative to invite them to Peking.

Quoting a Chinese News Services dispatch from Peking, a few papera reported that Legco Unofficial Maria Tom said at the Peking airport that members of the Legco delegation would exchange views with the authorities concerned during their visit and hoped to further understand the safety measures being adopted by China in nuclear energy in a bid to put HK people's heart ar ease.

Miss Tam said that in the coming discussions with Chinese officials, they would concentrate on the 30 recommendations contained in the Legco nuclear report which concerned the Chinese Government and the Guangdong Nuclear Power JVC.

Ta Kung Pao quoted Miss Tam as saying that they hoped to know China's views on the recommendations when they met the vice-minister of the Chinese Nuclear Power Industry tomorrow.

It was reported that the Lepro delegation would meet Chinese Vice-Premier Li Peng and State Coom Milor J. Pengfei on September 20.

The papers reported that the three main contracts worth US$1.8 billion for the Daya Bay plant would be edyned on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People and Li Peng woul actend the signing ceremony.

A representative of the French company, Frauatome, Carl Nicolajen, told reporters that the Legco fact-v dy report was very "professional" and some of the reconesocations were workable.
