Dear Dave,
GUANGDONG NUCLEAR PROJECT
..་".
1. As you know the French have still not come up with a response (at least in the form of an answer to me) to our démarche proposing a public statement about French involvement in the operation of the Daya Bay Station after construction.
2. However, the very clear statement on the subject by Guilhamon, the Vice-President of EDF at the signature ceremony in Peking on 23 September (Peking telno INDUS 186) prompted me to press the matter again with Gotlieb, head of the nuclear and space department at the Quai d'Orsay when I called on him on other business last Friday. Gotlieb continued to be vague about the timing of any formal response to our approach but when I asked said that he say no difficulty at all in publicising Guilhamon's assurances in Hong Kong if we thought that this would be useful. His only caveat was that it might be courteous to clear any such action with Guilhamon himself. I assume that there were no press present at the signature ceremony.
2.
I am not sure how interested you still are in the sort of statement proposed in DTI telnos INDUS 86, 87 and 89 given that we asked for it to be made before contract signature but if you would like me to pursue matters further with EDF let me know.
Yours, ever
Lite.
