ACT 03 '86 16:37 TIBCOOU) HK GOVT
Referring to the tariff of electricity to be supplied by the Daya Bay plant, Mr Poon said that apart from certain sensitive commercial documents, there was nothing about the Daya Bay project that could not be made available to Legco members or the public.
In another development, the media reported that a PAS for Economic Services, Emmeline Mok, returned from Vienna yesterday after attending a special meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency on nuclear safety.
She told reporters at the airport that under two international agreements to which Britain and China had just become signatories, China would alert HK as soon as possible if there was an accident at the Daya Bay plant.
She added that China's decision to sign the international accords should increase HK people's confidence in the Daya Bay project.
Some papers reported that Umelco member Allen Lee, told reporters yesterday before leading a trade delegation to Japan that great care should be exercised before using the Legco Powers and Privileges Ordinance to obtain tariff and other commercial information from the Government on the Daya Bay project.
He warned that the ordinance should not be abused, otherwise Legco would become an organ of power.
Tuesday, September 30: Nearly 95 per cent of the 154 respondents to a recent survey conducted by Sham Shui Po DB member Chan Chee-sing at the So Uk estate felt that the HK Government should be responsible for promoting educational programmes on nuclear technology, a number of papers reported in moderate coverage.
According to the reports, about 80 per cent of the respondents said the Government should set up an advisory body to assess reports relating to the operation of the Daya Bay plant.
Sing Tao Jih Pao reported that more than 1 000 people, including Legco members and representatives from political groups, were expected to attend a major public rally being organised by the Joint Conference for the Shelving of the Daya Bay Project.
A spokesman for the anti-nuclear group, Fung Chi-wood, told the paper that they would concentrate on research activities after the rally.
