In 1985, more than 30

technologists were arranged to work on the PSA analysis for the

Guangdong nuclear plant. This programme is supported by IAEA and will be completed in 3 stages. A final report will be submitted

in 1988.

(3) Setting up a nuclear plant simulator for training

NNSA has bought from USA a nuclear plant integral simulator designed by Westinghouse. A training centre will be up in Tsinghua University to improve the regulatory control of nuclear plants and the ability of the operation staff in

handling normal and emergency situations.

(4) Monitoring of technological research : this

includes : preparation of monitoring outlines, drafting of manuals, on-site inspection, inspection during operation development of technology on early detection of faults, etc.

(5) Experimental research on special topics : this includes experimental research on topics like heat transfer due to mishap, fuel behaviour and structural mechanics etc.

(6) Research on radiation prevention and contingency

planning

this includes research on radiation protection,

contingency measures in case of nuclear accidents, medical treatment for radiation injuries and technology on clearing up

nuclear pollution etc.

Nearly 100 research topics will be arranged during the

"Seventh Five-year Plan" period. Through international cooperation and domestic research, these studies will provide useful support to China's nuclear safety technology

monitoring work.
