as
between a nuclear power plant and members of the public is to educate the public about nuclear power and nuclear safety, inform
them of
of the operation situation of the nuclear power plant, well as to receive and answer enquiries from different sectors of the community. Nuclear power plants abroad pay much attention to
these tasks. We will ask the GNPJVC to study overseas
experience, and, based on the specific circumstances of our
country, draw up a programme to promote a closer relationship between nuclear power plants and the general public (including
the Hong Kong public).
As regards the suggestion for making public the Safety Analysis Report for the Daya Bay Plant, we have taken note of the views and requests from various quarters.
We will propose that the GNPJVC take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to make public the Safety Analysis Report in accordance with international practice and taking into account the specific
conditions of our country.
As far as
we know, the national environmental protection department has decided to plan for the setting up of a monitoring network at the Daya Bay site for monitoring water sources, the atmosphere, land surface, vegetation and food. Besides, the National Nuclear Safety Administration is planning to build regional offices for inspection work to be done on the construction and operation of the Daya Bay Plant.
As pointed out by the Minister
the Minister of Nuclear Industry,
JIANG Xinxiong, in his recent reply to questions raised by journalists, a basic principle that will be strictly followed in our country's nuclear power station construction programme is to safeguard the safety and health of the staff of the plant as well
as the nearby population.
