Friday, September 5: The Governor, Sir Edward Youde, rejected a request by some Legco Unofficials for a special meeting in Legco to debate the Daya Bay issue when he met Legça members Martin Lee, Tai Chin-wah and Conrad Lam at Government House yesterday morning, the media reported prominently.
The trio told a press conferents immediately after the meeting that they were disappointed over the Governor's decision,
The HK Economic Journal, quoted people familiar with Chinese affairs, said that Peking would not consent to a special Legco meeting to discuss the Daya Bay issue because the project was something for
China.
Some Legco members who supported the proposal for a special sitting at Wednesday's in-house meeting believed that the Governor rejection of the request had something to do with China's stance.
Conrad Lam was quoted by the paper as saying that the GovernO È could be under pressure from Peking.
The Oriental Daily News, quoting a councillor who was at the meeting with the Governor yesterday morning, said that the Governor looked angry when Martin Lee asked him if Government policies were decided by the Government alone.

According to media reports, Mr Lee said that they had tried their best and that there was nothing more they could do under the present political system.
He appealed to the public to express their views if they really wanted a special Legco debate.
Another Legco Unofficial, Szeto Wah, was quoted as saying that the Legco's standing orders should be reviewed as the nuclear debate had exposed weaknesses in the system.
A statement issued by the Governor soon after his meeting with the three Legco members, explaining why a special Legco debate was not required, was accorded good media coverage.
