On the other hand, Labour MP Donald Anderson, the Party spokesman, wrote Renton yesterday to query the British Government's position in the 'Daya Bay' incident.
Anderson pointed out in the letter that the proposal to construct a nuclear power plant at Daya Bay triggered off in Hong Kong a signature campaign in which more than one million people had signed to indicate their objection to the propecol, and the concern of 70% of the population.
Anderson also raised the following questions : Will the representatives of anti-nuclear groups in Hong Kong, who will soon be leaving or reking to petition the Chinese autheries, me British Ambassador to Peking? Does the British Government have plans to hold an open hearing in Hong Kong in respect of the Daya Bay incident? What will the British do if the Chinese side takes no heti of the objection raised by the people of Hong Kong and decides to sign the Daya Bay contracts?
