Ming Pao today published its editorial in a more prominently position on the right hand side of its front page under the mast head. The paper questioned whether the findings of the feasibility study were still valid after the Chernobyl accident.
Sing Tao Jih Pao noted that China's decision to go ahead with the project would adversely affect HK people's confidence and the territory's prosperity and stability.
New Evening Post columnist Yue Mak disagreed with suggestions that Peking was not being democratic in rejecting the views of one million HK people. The columnist said that rejecting wrong views should not be seen as undemocractic.
Tin Tin Daily News gave a list of questions which it said should be asked by the Legco fact-finding missions. They included whether approval was obtained from residents in the neighbourhood before a nuclear plant sire was chosen, whether there were contingency plans for evacuation, and whether N-plant projects had been dropped for lacked of evacuation plans.
The Centre Daily News continued to criticise Ming Peo's anti-Daya Bay project stand.
In the English press, the SCM Post said the Government admitted yesterday that the $2.1 million Daya Bay safety report compiled by British experts was inadequate. The paper said there was little likelihood that HK would have a role in the supervision of the nuclear plant at Daya Bay which was scheduled to be in operation by 1993.
