Matters of General Concern
Nuclear plant at Daya Bay
and comment.
There continues to be a lot of public discussion
However, attention has turned to the role
being played by school teachers in the signature campaign'
opposing the nuclear plant. Some parents of pupils of
the Tang Shiu Kin Primary School complained at being
scouted by their children for refusing to sign in the
campaign. DB member SIT Ho-yin also complained that his
son and daughter who are at the Primary School
堂
in Kowloon are also under pressure to obtain signatures
from their parents. An MAC chairman in Butterfly Bay
said that the Yan Tak Filmery Enhool is also involved.
An MAC chairman who is a primary school teacher reported
that some primary pupils are being asked to sign in the
signature campaign themoolves. There have been some
complaints to this office and the Education Department
about the affair. DB member NG Ming-yum has spoken out
against the signature campaign and considers it unjustified.
He felt that matters like the nuclear plant should be
debated among experts and not among the uninformed public.
NG still objects to the siting of the plant at Daya Bay
and wondered whether Hong Kong people might donate money
to the Chinese Authorities to compensate them for moving
the plant to another site. One respondent thought that. the plant had been part of a deal which made part of
suture of Hong Kong.
