7. The Chinese have already nominated four out of five experts to participate in the visit. They would like the visit to take place early in October 1986, starting during the second week, with a duration of about two weeks. This timing seems acceptable.

8. The objective of this mission would be for the Chinese to inform themselves on nuclear safety activities in the Community, both by the Commission and Member States, and to discuss very provisionally what assistance could be given to the Chinese in these areas. Therefore, in addition to meeting with Commission staff in Ispra and Brussels, it is proposed that the mission should also meet with national experts in some Member States to have a more complete picture as to the state of the art.

9. It is recognised that many Member States have

have valuable experience in the proposed topics, although in view of

of the relatively short time for the visit, it will be necessary to place a limit on the number of visits that can be made.

10. The Commission would be more than willing to consider any suggestions that Member States might have for inclusion in the visit programme. In view of the short time left to make all the necessary arrangements, these suggestions or other comments on the proposals should reach the Commission Services as soon as possible*.

11. The Commission will take the responsibility for making the arrangements for the visit and for covering all the costs of the stay in Europe, though any hospitality that could be offered by the national organisations visited would be much appreciated.

* Communications should be

addressed to DG XVII/A (Clive Jones Hans-Eike von Scholz) which is acting as co-ordinator for the visit.
