At a dinner in Peking on 16 June the Chairman of
China's State Science and Technology Commission, Song Jian,
discussed the question of safety at Daya Bay with EC
representatives.
He initially took the view that
reassurance of Hong Kong people about safety at Daya Bay
was HMG's responsibility. But when pressed by the UK
representative on the need for China to ensure adequate
safety standards at the plant, Song responded that the Chinese Nuclear Safety Administration was working hard on
Lither training of personnel and the need for safety measures at
Daya Bay. He offered disucssions with British and French
Governments on nuclear safety and further
