My Secretary of State's discussions on 9 June with Li Peng were considerably hampered by the low level of competence displayed by the Chinese interpreter. I wonder whether, in future, it might be possible to provide an interpreter from our own side for discussions with senior foreign visitors, rather than simply relying on interpreters brought by the visitors themselves.
