RADIATION LEAK IN CHERNOBYL PLANT, USSR

I have received a telex asking me to make certain enquiries about the radiation leak in Chernobyl and the effect it may have had in your country. The content of the telex was as follows.

"I should be most grateful for your urgent assistance in obtaining the following information from the relevant authorities in Poland and Hungary:-

(a) the possible effect and extent of contamination by the radiation

leak on food products, especially dairy products, meat and poultry, in the country; and

(b)

whether or not, and what, preventive or remedial measures are being, or will be, taken to safeguard food products for export".

I realise that it may not be possible to respond to these enquiries immediately, but I should appreciate it if you would let me have the information as quickly as possible.
