By contrast Hong Kong manufacturers compete very

successfully in markets al over the world. Goods emanating

from Hong Kong and alleged to infringe a patent would have

to be the subject of infringement proceedings in each of

the markets for those goods if proceedings could not be

Registration itself is an easy and inexpensive step, so

the explanation must lie at an earlier stage. There seem

to be three possible reasons:

(1) Hong Kong's manufacturing industry simply

does not produce many patentable inventions.

(2) Hong Kong's innovators are not sufficiently

aware of the advantages to be gained from

protecting their ideas by means of patents.
