While our fundamental common policies and mechanisms are not up for negotiation, agriculture will be fairly and squarely addressed in the Uruguay Round - 28. our own interest, as well ́es in mat’af owner contracting · parties. Given the specific characteristics of this vital and sensitive sector, all aspects will be handled in the group specially appointed for that purpose. Wo shall negotiate in that group in good faith, to secure genuine
advance.
In the Uruguay Round the Community will be participating in its new con- figuration. The process which led to our enlargement from ten to twelve Member States entailed complex and lengthy negotiations. We uphold the outcoms, which is now accomplished fact.
Finally, I must also say a word on fisheries.
We accept the taxt on natural resource products in general and are, of crimes ready to aim at further liberalisation in this sector. But as far as fisheries is concerned, we regret that the options which we developed in the Fisheries Working Group and which we stated in that Group's report, are in no way reflected in the text. We feel obliged therefore to rexat again what wo have consistently stated in all fora in which this issue has been discusse: namely, that we will pursue discussions in the fisheries sector only if all factors specific to this product and having an influence on trade are takin into account.
I would ask, Mr Chairman, that this statement be carded in the records
our meeting.
