TEXTILES AND CLOTHING

"Negotiations in the area of textiles and clothing

shall aim to formulate modalities that would permit the

eventual integration of this sector into GATT on the

basis of strengthened GATT rules and disciplines,

thereby also contributing to the objective of further

liberalisation of trade". This reflects closely the

EC's declared position. The Community has made it

clear that agreement on an end to the Multi-Fibre

Arrangement is dependent on satisfactory conclusions to

negotiations in other areas (for example the graduation

of the NICs and an adequate safeguard emergency

protection clause).
