There was considerable interest in seeing and hearing President Aquino and the Philippine Governor on the problems facing the new Government. China made a relatively low key statement, holding out the prospect that it would not cause difficulties with Taiwan in the Bank.

17. Of the Governors' statements, that of the USA dominated the meeting in its breadth and content.

18. The UK delegation's main objective in the Annual Meeting was to seek to improve relations with the Bank, and particularly with the President. From Mr Fujioka's attitude in the interview and his reference to the UK's "positive" role in the ASDF V negotiation, the delegation felt this was achieved.

Other matters

19.

The Austrian delegate advised that Dr Kantner would be nominated as Director's Assistant for the next two years.
