HONG KONG: PROPOSED VISIT OF IMF STAFF TEAM

1.

Thank you for your letter of 21 March about the

IMF proposal to send a mission to Hong Kong to review

developments in the financial markets.

2.

The Hong Kong Government have been consulted and

have confirmed that the proposed visit is acceptable

provided it is

intended that the visit to Hong Kong

should be part of an

an international tour. I imagine that

this is what the IMF have in mind but perhaps you would

confirm that this is so.

Enclosures-flag(s)...........3.

Subject to that, we would be content for the IMF

to make direct contact with the Hong Kong

Government

about arrangements.

They should get in touch with

Mr C W Lau of the Monetary Affairs Branch.
