Amend the Community Chest of Hong Kong Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.

1. (1) This Ordinance may be cited as the Community Chest of Hong Kong Short title and (Amendment) Ordinance 1986.

(2) Section 3 shall come into operation on the commencement of Part IV of the Banking Ordinance 1986.

Section 8(d) of the principal Ordinance is amended-

commencement.

Amendment of section 8.

(a) by inserting after "any bank in the Colony or elsewhere" the following (Cap. 1122.)

"or any deposit-taking company registered or licensed under the Deposit-taking Companies Ordinance"; and

(Cap. 328.)

(b) by deleting "the Colony" wherever it occurs and substituting in each place

the following-

“Hong Kong”.

Section 8(d) of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting "Deposit- Subsequent taking Companies Ordinance" and substituting the following-

amendment of section 8.

Explanatory Memorandum

This Bill amends the principal Ordinance so as to expressly empower the Community Chest of Hong Kong to invest moneys on deposit in any registered or licensed deposit-taking company. The opportunity has also been taken to make minor amendments to the principal Ordinance to amend "the Colony" to "Hong Kong".
