Even for the same component of goods and services the price movement may vary among the three consumer price indices, because different items of goods and services are selected and the items have different weighting systems. For CPI (B), the highest rates of price increase during the first nine months of 1986 were also recorded for durable goods, and alcoholic drinks and tobacco, both at 5%. For the Hang Seng CPI, housing and durable goods recorded the most rapid price increases during the same period, at 8% and 7% respectively.
