Electricity consumption in the third quarter 1986, at 5 509 million kilowatt hours, was 15% higher than in the third quarter of 1985. Domestic consumption and commercial consumption increased by 22% and 11% respectively. The amount of
of electricity consumed by industrial users also increased substantially, by 17%, reflecting a pick-up in manufacturing activity. Electricity exports to China amounted to 231 million kilowatt hours in the third quarter, equivalent to 4% of the total electricity production in Hong Kong.

Town gas consumption continued to increase rapidly, following the expansion in the supply network. Comparing the third quarter of 1986 with the same quarter in 1985, domestic consumption and commercial consumption rose by 17% and 15% respectively, with the overall consumption higher by 16%.
