Due to data limitations, a quarterly quantitative assessment of the position of invisible trade cannot be made.
Nevertheless, there are some useful indications in the area of
travel. Comparing the first half of 1986 with the same period
last year, the number of visitors coming to Hong Kong
increased by 5%. Over the same period, the number of Hong
Kong residents touring abroad (including China and Macau)
increased by 4%
As the average per capita expenditure of incoming visitors tended to be substantially higher than
that of Hong
Hong Kong residents touring abroad, there probably
continued to be a net surplus on expenditure on travel in the first half of this year.

(17) Comparing the first half of this year with the same period last year,
the number of Hong Kong residents travelling to China increased by 6%, while the number of Hong Kong residents travelling to Macau showed little change. They together accounted for 93% of the total number of Hong Kong residents travelling abroad.
