China also remained the most important source of the goods re-exported through Hong Kong. In the first half of 1986, the value of re-exports from China was 35% higher than in the first half of 1985.

This, coupled with the significant decreases in re-exports originating from Japan, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea, contributed to an increase in China's share in the total value of re-exports, from 30% in the first half of 1985 to 40% in the first half of 1986.
