Dear Sir
Mrs Nicoleon's indignation ("Queen reduced to the role of saleslady" 18 October) was unnecessary. Her Majesty did not preside over the seminar in Shanghai or spend a day talking business. Her Majesty very kindly made the Royal Yacht Britannia available for part of the business event while she was pursuing her programme elsewhere.
Trade is an important element in Sino/British relations and the seminar in Shanghai was a legitimate expression of this and was, I believe, useful to both sides.
Yours faithfully
