ADMINISTRATION PREPARATIONS FOR JLGIV

We spoke about the most suitable conference room for the JLGIV meeting. Our options are extremely limited.

JLGI took place in room WH240, which is a well-furnished room and includes an adjoining ante-room which was used by the Chinese delegation during the tea interval. This room is now the only one available within the FCO because the Indoa Office Council Chamber will not re-open until 1987 and the E1082 conference room has been allocated to the Presidency Secretariat from May-December 1986!

The only other large room within the building that we could use is the Defence Department conference room (WH424D) but this is not furnished to a particularly high standard.

The WH240 conference room will be slightly cramped for two 14 member delegations, but it should be just possible to fit everyone in. There may be problems, however, on the first day if we have a photocall in the conference room en day one of the mooting, as we did for JLGI.

IF WH240 is not suitable, we will have to look at an outside venue, such as the new International, Conference Centre, but this may cost money. Would you like to have a look at WH240?
