The final part of our visit, to CINCPAC's Headquarters in Hawaii, was highly successful. The US authorities treated us with great consideration and a high degree of frankness in the briefings they gave us; we were all delighted to experience this closeness of our relationship with our major ally.

As always, the help and support we have received from the Parliamentary Relations Unit in the FCO has been invaluable. As you know, the preparations for the visit were bedevilled by misunderstandings and difficulties of one sort and another. The small staff of the PRU spent a disproportionate amount of their time in ensuring that things went smoothly for us, and for this we are most grateful.

In this brief letter I have been able only to touch on the main features of a tour that was enjoyable as well as immensely valuable to us. In the weeks ahead we shall be analysing the vast amount of material that we have acquired, and pursuing particular matters as necessary. Thank you once again for all the help we received from your Department.
