VISIT TO HONG KONG BY MR CLIVE SOLEY MP

Relations

1.

We spoke about the attached letter to Mr Renton from

Mr Clive Soley MP, asking for briefing in preparation for

a visit to Hong Kong and China.

2.

As we agreed I spoke to Mr Soley.

He will be coming

to the Department next week and I shall brief him on the topics which figure on his Hong Kong programme (arranged for him by the Hong Kong Government).

3.

Mr Soley will be staying privately in Peking, and

wishes to do no more than (at the most) call on a senior

Chinese figure connected with Hong Kong. I shall discuss this with him and then send a telegram to Peking to alert

the Ambassador.
