Egypt Visit due to take place in April 1986.
Jordan King Hussein recalled the moribund Lower House of Parliament
We should in January 1984 and by-elections were held in March 1984. encourage Jordan's fledgling democracy and our Ambassador is anxious that after the State Visit (April 1984) and the possible visit by the Prime Minister later this year we should maintain the momentum of high level visits as a way of demonstrating our support for King Hussein.
Kuwait This is the only Gulf State with its own National Assembly, presided over by a Speaker. The Kuwaiti Speaker visited the UK as the leader of a delegation from the National Assembly in November 1983. This was the first official inter-Parliamentary visit in 20 years. We have been encouraging the Kuwaitis to issue a return invitation. The only response to date has been an invitation from the then Kuwaiti Speaker (Mr Al Adasani) to Peter Temple-Morris
We would MP, then Chairman of the IPU, to pay a visit to Kuwait. encourage the Speaker or an IPU delegation to visit.
SOUTH AMERICA
One theme in the political developments in South America is the " return to democracy in Brazil and Uruguay, and the transition from Bolivia one democratically elected government to another in Peru. may also limp through its elections in July without a military coup. This suggests that a visit by the Speaker to a collection of countries in South America might well be appropriate.
Mr Renton will visit Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in late July/early August. Secretary of State will visit Brazil in July followed by a number of ministerial colleagues. Lady Young has commented that a visit by the Speaker to Uruguay in the early days of President Sanguinetti's Government would be particularly useful. Peru would

Venezuela is already a possibility for an IPU visit.
