Thank you very much for your letter of 26th February. really sorry that this is taking up your personal time, when I am sure you have better and more important things to deal with, but there are just too many misunderstandings for one to write this off yet again.

Let me show you what I mean: in your fifth paragraph you refer to 'your contacts with the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents' club which gave rise to the article by Ann Quon in The South China Morning Post'. I had no contact at all with the Club until I received a telex out of the blue from them, which was certainly not based on any intimation I had given to anyone that I was planning to visit Hong Kong as British Airways' guest. It is possible that British Airways themselves made this information available to Ann Quon. However, in view of the fact that the telex I received (copy of which is enclosed) came from the Deputy Editor of THE FAR EASTERN ECONOMIC REVIEW with whom I have been in contact on related matters, one can only wonder who it was who really provided Mr Bowring with the information that I was coming.
One or two close colleagues with whom I have discussed all this find it thoroughly unsurprising and their assessment of some of the most senior personnel in the Hong Kong Government tallies with mine.
