Commissioner of Police reiterated the legal difficulties in meeting Chinese requests for assistance in preventing the illegal export of artifacts and works of art from China, and described the circumstances in which assistance could legally be given. The Chinese side stated that, while they understood the legal difficulties, they hoped that wherever possible the Hong Kong authorities would assist in preventing what, in China, is considered a very serious offence. This was agreed.

Commissioner of Police reported that an examination of the problem had already been carried out, in particular to determine whether or not criminal syndicates were involved in this crime. Findings indicate that there is no evidence that this is so.
