In 1985, the Chinese authorities set out a list
of 39 types of foreign investment projects which are given priority, and of 12 types of foreign investment projects
which are to be discouraged by the state. These are

Growth and development of joint ventures since 1979

Notwithstanding some data gaps, a few general observations can be made on the growth and development of Sino-foreign joint ventures during the past seven years. As indicated in the following tables, the number of joint ventures grew rapidly in the past seven years, as did the
