(in London): He is optimistic that China would accept partly, if not wholly, a suggestion that a committee
comprising Chinese people of international standing be set up to monitor the drafting and enforcement of the Basic
Law.
BLCC deputy secretary- general Siu Simpor: The Chinese or British government should initiate the setting up of special channels to deal with problems that may crop up during the rumup to 1997. These channels should take the form of community groups similar in format to the BLCC.
