Sing Tao Wan Pao: The BLCC will positively assist Basic Law drafting only if it scientifically analyses all views collected objectively.

BLCC executive committee member Denis Chang: Mr Ji's speech is on the whole very positive. It is important that Mr Ji does not attempt to

impose China's idea on the drafting of the Basic Law.

BLCC member and

Federation of HK Students chairman Andrew Fung notes that Mr Ji has not mentioned the provision in the Joint Declaration that the future chief executive of the HK SAR will be accountable to the legislature. China may be concerned that the legislature may become independent of the

central government if the chief executive is made accountable to the SAR legislature.

Umelco member Maria Tam: Britain, as one of the signing party for the Joint Declaration, should pay attention to Basic Law drafting through the Joint Liaison Group.
