the consultative panel's standing committee may affect Basic Law consultation and violates the principle that the BLDC and BLCC are equal in status.

* BLDC member Liu Yiu-chu: The way the office-bearers of the BLCC standing committee are chosen shows that either the 19 standing committee members are not acting in good conscience or else there must be something wrong with their intelligence. As all the 19 members are prominent figures, they should be left alone to elect the

office-bearers.

BLCC member Peter Wrangham: The BLCC's comprehensive

representativeness will have a positive effect on Basic Law drafting.
