Given the high level of demand for
consultations at most urban clinics it is
difficult to see how waiting times can be
significantly shortened. However,
in clinics with high attendances and
consequently long waiting times, a block
appointment system has been introduced
whereby groups of patients at the time of
registration are told of the expected time
of their consultations and encouraged to
return to the clinic at the appointed time
instead of waiting. This arrangement has
had the effect of significantly reducing
actual waiting times.
