AB 31,

Tabled today is the Annual Report of the Trade

Development Council for the financial year 1984/85.

During the period under review, the

international trading climate was generally favourable. Accordingly, within the full programme of trade promotions

mounted during the year, emphasis was given to

capitalising on the strong demand in our major markets,

particularly the United States.

In parallel with this, TDC energetically pursued its on-going campaign in the Japanese market and continued to build up its role as a catalyst for Hong Kong's rapidly expanding business relationship with China.

Overseas Activities

In addition to day-to-day contacts with buyers

and sellers by our network of 20 overseas offices, we

organised over 60 overseas trade promotions. Some 1,300 Hong Kong companies participated in these events. The

total amount of business negotiated and concluded on the spot during these promotions reached almost HK$1.5

billion. In addition, nearly 25,000 trade enquiries were

processed as a result of these activities overseas.

In total, these activities spanned 27 countries

around the world, including 16 promotions in the United States, 26 in Europe, and 11 in Japan.
