of the United States of America "RICO" statute (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations' Statute)

this is a very broad conspiracy law enabling the prosecution to establish "patterns of racketeering activity" by linking a series of otherwise

unconnected separate criminal offences.

The Working Group is still at an early stage in its consideration of all these proposals. The Working Group acknowledges that it is necessary to maintain a balance between ensuring that the proposed legislative provisions are harsh enough on the criminals but not unduly harsh on the general public.
