Police officers made 23 appearances on television, giving crime prevention advice.

Press releases

Seventeen special press releases were made which received extensive newspaper coverage.

Posters

Three posters were produced on the subjects of window security, door security and shoplifting. They are now on display throughout the territory.

Pamphlets

50,000 copies of each of a new style crime prevention pamphlet have been printed and will shortly be distributed. The pamphlets cover the following subjects

(a)

Neighbourhood Watch

(b) Make your Home Safe;

the Concept;

(c)

Report all Crime;

(a) Protect your Money;

(e)

Protect your Shop; and

(£)

Protect your Car.

Items (a), (b) and (c) are designed for the

neighbourhood watch scheme, but additional copies will also be made available for general distribution.

FUTURE ACTION

2.19

The Publicity Sub-Committee will continue to oversee the implementation of the "neighbourhood watch" scheme as a major part of the 1985/86 Prevent Crime Campaign designed to mobilise the public to protect themselves against burglaries in the homes and to promote good community relations. It will also continue to use the slogan "Police and the people fighting crime together" further to promote crime prevention.

For 1986/87, the Publicity Sub-Committee intends to introduce the second phase of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme to cover more buildings. Studies are being undertaken to examine the need to promote other crime prevention matters and the

Sub-Committee will meet and consider new proposals in early 1986.
