INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND

The Fight Crime Committee was reconstituted

in May 1983, with the Chief Secretary as its Chairman, to draw up plans to reduce crime, to co-ordinate the work involved, to monitor the results and to report progress to the Governor twice yearly. Details of the Committee's membership and terms of reference are at Appendix I.

The Committee co-opts other officials and unofficials as necessary from time to time, and works as much as possible through sub-committees [on recurring issues] and working groups [on one-off issues], comprising its own members and other officials and unofficials.

The Committee submitted its first report to the Governor in December 1983. This is its fifth report, which details the work undertaken by the Committee from May to October 1985.
