UMELCO Membership Changes

On 1.9.84, the Government

announced the reappointments to ExCo with Mr O V CHEUNG reappointed for two years from 1.9.84 to 31.8.86 and Mr LI Fook-wo for one year from 1.9.84 to 31.8.85.

On 5.7.85, it was announced that Sir S Y CHUNG, Miss Lydia DUNN and Miss Maria TAM were reappointed to ExCo for three years from 1.9.85 to 31.8.88; Mr Q W LEE and Mr S L CHEN for two years from 1.9.85 to 31.8.87 while Mr M G R Sandberg for one year from 1.9.85 to 31.8.86.

Mr LO Tak-shing ceased to be a Member of ExCo on 12.2.85 upon resignation. On 21.6.85, Mr Allen LEE was appointed to ExCo for a term up to 31.8.88.

As for LegCo membership, the Government announced on 1.9.84 that ten Unofficial Members were reappointed for one year from 1.9.84

to 31.8.85; they were:

Mr Peter C WONG

Mr WONG Lam

Dr Hon HO Kam-fai

Mr Allen LEE

Mr Andrew SO

Mr F K HU

Mr WONG Po-yan

Mr J J Swaine

At the same time, three new

Members, Dr Kim CHAM, Mr Keith

LAM and Mr Carl TONG were appointed to LegCo for one year from 1.9.84 to 31.8.85.

With these membership changes, the overall number of Unofficials on LegCo rose to 31. However, after the untimely death of Rev P T McGovern on 30.9.84, the number was reduced to 30 and then fell to 29 following Mr LO Tak-shing's resignation from the Council on 12.2.85.

On 5.7.85, the Government announced that the terms of all serving Leg Co Members would be extended to 29.10.85
