1.

We have recently

seen reports

indicating continuing Chinese concern over political reforms in Hong Kong, but with a new twist arguing specifically that the introduction of representative government has enabled pro-KMT

individuals to gain election to various Government bodies.

2.

Chinese paranoia about the KMT is also nothing new. The various reports that I recall seeing in the past year all seem to have indicated a general lack of electoral success on the part of KMT supporters. This is certainly so in the case of the LEGCO elections last September although (less certain aboùt URBCO/REGCO

certain

and the District Boards.

To prepare ourselves for possible Chinese questioning on these lines at JLGIV, it would be very helpful to know what if any indications you have that KMT supporters have in fact secured places on Government boards, Councils etc. Any observations you have on this will of course be most welcome.
