The Government announced today that the Chief

Secretary, Sir David Akers-Jones, will be retiring

from the Civil Service in June 1987. Sir David, who

has served in Hong Kong since 1957, will be 60 on

14 April.

The Secretary of State has approved the

appointment of Mr David Ford to succeed Sir David

as Chief Secretary. Mr Ford is presently the

Secretary for the Civil Service.

Attached are brief biographical notes on Sir

David and Mr Ford.
