3. To sum up, there is no direct evidence that Qiao Shi has or might be in line for a Hong Kong role. On the other hand he is a member of the successor generation of the leadership and one of them will have to take on responsibility for Hong Kong sooner or later. He has past connections with Ji Pengfei. He has some experience of foreign affairs albeit from a Party perspective. holds a senior government post compatible with taking a more prominent role in Hong Kong affairs. None of the above is in any way conclusive, I am afraid we shall just have to wait and see what develops. In the meantime we will keep our eyes and ears open.
