Your attention is drawn to the fact that the

Government of the United Kingdom and the Government of the People's Republic of China have, on 19th December 1984, signed an agreement, in the form of a Joint Declaration and three associated annexes, on the future of Hong Kong. The agreement provides that Hong Kong will become a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China on 1 July 1997. Section IV of Annex I to the Joint Declaration provides that, after the establishment of the Hong Kong Speical Administrative Region public servants of the Hong Kong Government may all remain in employment and continue their service. This means that all public service employment after 30 June 1997 will be with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
