FOR REFUGEES, AND MR RICHARD LUCE MP, MINISTER OF STATE, FCO:

Mr Hartling called on Mr Luce at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

at 0950 today accompanied by his Executive Assistant, Mr George

Gordon-Lennox, and his Representative in the United Kingdom

Mr Ruprecht von Arnim. The call lasted 40 minutes. He came here following his recent visit to Hong Kong, to discuss with British Ministers the Hong Kong refugee problem in the context of the

recommendations in the report of the Home Affairs Sub-Committee on

Race Relations and Immigration with HMG are now considering.

They had a useful and wide-ranging discussion, and Mr Luce was grateful for the opportunity to hear Mr Hartling's views. Mr Luce will be hosting a lunch for Mr Hartling and his party today at

Lancaster House.
