13. Recent publication of Home Affairs Select Committee's report on Refugees and Asylum has highlighted particular problem of Vietnamese refugees, especially those in Hong Kong: makes debate most timely.

Adjournment Debate on 9 May, the Government are now considering the Select Committee's recommendations very carefully and will be giving a detailed response in due course. In the meantime, would not be

appropriate to offer detailed comment

on recommendations. Assure

House that Her Majesty's Government attach utmost importance to both improving situation of the Vietnamese who have settled in this

country and to

to finding permanent solutions for the 11,200 who are

still in Hong Kong awaiting resettlement.
